Social Media Etiquette: Top 3 MUST DO’s For Engagement!

Ask The Right Questions…FREQUENTLY!

If you ever studied human behavior in regard to building relationships, one of the most primary paths to being likeable, and building and engaging conversation is to get the other person to talk about themselves! Harvard neuroscientist Diana Tamir has been quoted saying:

“Self-disclosure is extra rewarding,” and through a variety of social experiments she found that “people were even willing to forgo money in order to talk about themselves.”

Though this may be shocking, it is not new research and the results aren’t wavering.
As a business building a social media following, you can promote people to interact by ASKING QUESTIONS!

Pro Tip: Add imagery when possible and multiple-choice options, this makes it quick and easy for interaction on the behalf of your traffic. for example, a post like this may be perfect for a chiropractic page:

Give REAL Value

Social media relationships are similar to interpersonal relationships in the sense that there must be a two-way street, both parties need to give and receive. Your postings should have a good balance of valuable “nuggets” for your followers, a few ideas people respond well to:

– DIY tips
– Discount Codes
– Short videos
– Free Downloads

Your Response Rate Should Be at 100%

Research varies with some data showing “selective response” is the best route, while others suggest responding to every single comment on your posts is necessary. Here’s my theory:

Do:
– Respond WITH words when you can, this lets your followers know you are also engaged in what they’re saying.
– Respond with “likes” or emoji’s acknowledging you’ve read their comment.

Don’t:
-Respond only to negative feedback, I’ve seen social celebrities write paragraphs back to their “trolls” and not acknowledge their fans who reach out to promote them.
– “Ghost Your Fans”, to ask a question and then show no response whatsoever would be one form of “ghosting”, and the more you do that, the less likely people will respond to your posts.

A little Goes a Long Way

If your social media following is contained enough that you don’t need a media management team strategically calculating your next move, then it’s important to remember a little goes a long way. Little inquiries, little responses, little interactions are all you need to begin BIG momentum potential.
